Looks like this thread is strictly garden related. Given the title, I was a bit hesitant to post.
Father, I think I'm ready for confession. How does the rest of your week look?

Be brave, Latitude33 , No hesitating necessary amongst friends (and maybe I'll see you and raise you one )

Be brave, Latitude33 , No hesitating necessary amongst friends (and maybe I'll see you and raise you one ) Given my history of wrecks, I am afraid some of the good folks here may turn into a pillar of salt if they turned to read anything I post here. Now, if somebody wants to start a "Boy, THAT Was Stupid" thread I could entertain y'all with pratfalls and the like.

I'll no longer plant any zinnias in pots...Only in ground from now on... Wastes way too much water having to keep them alive...
In fact, I removed the already potted zinnias from their pots and planted them in ground and replaced them with those Gomphrena that I love and that need rare watering...

If I had it to do over again, I would not have planted so many Russian sage plants.
I have loved these plants- they are bee magnets, they never need watering and have seemed perfect for this high desert plateau. But they do TOO well! They spread like crazy- runners everywhere and reseed too. I am constantly pruning them and thinning out new branches at ground level, as well as digging out the runners. I have 18 planted in various spots. (now 15) The most problematic were the ones that ran into the driveway, in front of the veggie garden. (I dug those out this spring). and three that run into a patch of reiter thyme lawn (drought resistant) that I am constantly having to weed out.
I was hoping for low maintenance and I got just the opposite.... argh....

desertwoman, I would love to have Russian Sage that grows like yours does. Those big clouds of blue are beautiful.

Well, I wish I hadn't taken on this squirrel. I had once fostered one in Brooklyn, but he stayed on the balcony and other squirrels came to visit and showed him the ropes of being a squirrel. This one I took in at four weeks and could not find a wildlife rehabber to take him. My colleagues, who are wildlife rehabbers, said a lot of them are quitting because of bureaucratic hassles by the current person in charge. So since he's been weaned, I have been taking him outside on the porch. Today he went to the garden with me and helped weed. I've learned to give the alarm call and gave him a warning when the cat came by. He's learning. In the house he's a terror. He enjoys taking a flying leap onto my head when I am on the computer. Then he pulls my hair and tries to nip at my ears. A few minutes ago he was in my lap and kept sneaking up to chew on my notebook. Hopefully he will be on his own in a few weeks. If i'm lucky he will have learned to eat the weeds and leave the tomatoes and other veggies alone. Wishful thinking.

Today he went to the garden with me and helped weed. That's a real image, gardendmpls. He probably thinks you are "Mom". Let's hope he "fledges" successfully.

Today we were out and he disappeared into the weeds. Saw a commotion in front of the garage and there was our cat, Damascus, trying to catch him. Squirrel climbed on top of a to be discarded pile of furniture. Did a pretty good job of evading the cat and then jumped on my shoulder to be escorted inside. Was getting too hot out anyway. Inside, he had a good time jumping in the carefully laid out pieces of the thousand piece jigsaw puzzle that would be finished if I didn't have to keep rearranging the remaining pieces. Then he began demolishing a new yellow chrysanthemum plant just bought yesterday. The flowers seemed to be the tastiest part.

When I decided to put in a flower garden I went all out....going across the entire front of my house and around the mailbox. That was a few years ago and before all the joint difficulties. I would grow all my own flowers from seed. Plant and weed it all. While I had some perennials most were annuals. But the size of it with the vegetable garden and mowing, weed whacking, etc...it is getting a bit much.
Now I am looking for more perennials to put in and will cut back on the annuals and have a smaller vegetable garden.

Now I am looking for more perennials to put in and will cut back on the annuals and have a smaller vegetable garden. That's what I decided to do over the past couple of years. Have been transitioning to all perennials with the exception of cosmos and larkspur which reseed and need nothing from me except to thin out as needed and a couple of pots of 2 or 3 favorite annual. The veggie garden got smaller but the flower beds remain the same size. Flowers are food for my soul.

What happened to him? Maybe I missed it. Did he get to grow up? It's about time for a new round of babies around here, right? Or is it too early.

He was transitioned to the wild, taught to avoid us by use of a spray bottle. See him around from time to time. He doesn't approach, but doesn't run away either. I'm glad he made it. Just hope I'm not regretting it when he chomps on my plants this coming garden season.

Putting an egg in my jacket pocket then discovering it not in it's original form days later. Reached in there yesterday to put my reading glasses in there so I wouldn't lose them.
