Thanks reuben. No matter the di-ease, it keeps coming back to diet and lifestyle, doesn't it?
And though the percentage of elderly with dementia has fallen, the total number who will get dementia will increase due to the rising numbers of the elderly population over the next 30 years so it is still of epidemic proportions- as tom's posted article says, they expect the numbers of dementia patients to triple by 2050.
Pass me the greens salad, please!

There is at least one place on earth where the people do not get Alzheimer's -- the Italian Shangri-La of Acciaroli. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AcciaroliThe Acciarolians smoke, drink, are overweight, and do not diet or exercise, yet it is not unusual for them to live to be 110. The only exceptional feature of their diet is a high consumption of anchovies (it's a fishing village) and a heavy use of rosemary. The rosemary in the area is supposed to be exceptionally potent. The Italian government has authorized a study of this health oddity, but no published results yet.

The dementia rate may be falling, but not for Alzheimers. The 2 are not the same, Alzheimers is a type of dementia. This explains it very well. I'm no medical person, but isn't the situation simple? dementia = brain death. No dead parts of the brain, then no dementia, no Alzheimer's, no Parkinson's.
