lisaann That is ODD! You are the neighborhood watch, keep an eye out! I often peek out the windows when I get up, sometimes see a person walking down the street. The next block is very strange, a 4 plex rental down there. I always let The Princess out when I get up, if she barks I know there is activity. She doesn't get her bark collar on til daylight. I want to know if there is something odd going on. And I think the people walking around know there is a BIG dog.

I'm trying but I can't bring myself to pull all of this out. There are still bees on the flowers.

I still have petunias, victoria blue salvia, and ornamental oregano blooming, Some trees are still green and there are quite a few fall colors hanging on, though there are also some bare trees too. It's November 11 and it looks like mid October.
I'm still picking kale and chard in the veggie garden and garlic has been up for at least a week now.

Odd over there..............Out of state tags...........No reason for them to be suspect at this point..............But..........something is ODD............. And...............I was thinking to write a NOVEL and does this sound like a GREAT mystery, Sounds a bit like a good Alfred Hitchcock movie "Rear Window" with Jimmy Stewart.

Standing amidst the sea of straw in my garden is the swiss chard and a couple volunteer romaines. Volunteer balsam (self seeded from this year's plants) is blooming. That has to be some vigorous plant. It's growing in cracks of walkway at garage foundation!
Things are definitely refusing to be put to rest this year and dormancy is behind schedule! Hoping it doesn't prevent lilacs from blooming in Spring.

The question "What is this winter you speak of" reminds of the professor we had at our Advanced Master Gardening class to talk about ornamental grasses. He was born and raised in some place called California and graduated from UCLA. He was hired by Michigan State University with classes he was to teach beginning in January. He and his wife arrived in Lansing and stepped off the plant dressed (as typical Californians) in shorts and tank tops. He had been at MSU then for 15 years, loved it, and found that with this winter (that we speak of) gardening here can come to a halt which allowed him and his wife to travel about the world and see other gardens and how others did gardening which in California was not really possible because gardens there needed to be tended year around.

Sometimes I think it would be nice to Garden year round but I really do like the break. However I think I would like a break that is a bit shorter than what we have in Pennsylvania

I cherish the winter break. It has more to do with daylight than temperature. When it gets dark at 4 pm you know you are meant to stay in.

I get many fall and winter weeds that take hold here over the winter, and then I must rip them out in the spring. This is the crap I was just out there admiring. It is NOT under my tarps that cut off SUN light, but it is chapping my butt in BED 4 already, where I don't have tarps smothering WEED CRAP! Straw would only live for about an hour, before it blew away. Look LEFT of Top weed in Pic................That's my Garlic............Uhhhhh, hang on........ I'll be back........I'm in the middle of a thought..........Hubby is laughing.
