I don't know if we got frost in this area, but the temperature on my thermometer in the back got down to 39° last night, and many places nearby got colder. The forecast lows will be lower for 3 days this week.
It drives me nuts every year when I hear all that crap about that "average" last frost date, getting people to buy and plant things like tomatoes, and other things that can be killed by frost. Do all those people not know what average means? That basically means that half the time you'll get the last frost before, and half the time after that date!!! But then, I guess many people like to gamble...

I heard the weatherman say the other day our last frost date is first week in May. Always used to be May 15 or later.

My gosh, the weather here is almost too good to be true! Of course, there was that little episode of a few tornadoes (one an EF2) doing considerable damage in its path. But it's wall to wall sunshine, low (still) humidity, and cool in the evenings. Upper 40's tonight and working it's was from 72 to 85. So lovely, and everything is so green!

I heard the weatherman say the other day our last frost date is first week in May. Always used to be May 15 or later. Did your growing zone change? We went from 6a to 7a with the recent update. I suspect our last frost date has changed too, though I haven't yet heard/seen anything to confirm this.

desertwoman I googled my zip code for growing zones. Apparently we are 5a since 1990. Then it was 4. In reality the changes seem more recent.

They changed my section from 6b to 7a/7b, but I haven't noticed earlier last frost dates, just warmer previous months. Several years recently have had cold first 10 days or so of May, so I am not starting any of my usual things earlier.
Only down to 39° here, but there is a 37° forecast for Thursday night, after a 50° night. It was nice today - 69°, and 70° forecast for tomorrow, but only 59° Thursday! It finally goes up for at least a week, after that. Hopefully, the rain will eventually hold off a few days - seems we are always getting at least enough to stop what we're doing. Some more in the morning...

Today was only up to 60° here, and tonight they have switched my area into a freeze warning, instead of the freeze watch last night. Still nothing I have to worry about out there - not until May. And the next few days it will be getting warmer faster, up to maybe 86° Tuesday! As always, crazy weather.

I almost weakened and put out a couple of tomato plants today…then came to my senses. Weather forecast suggests the possibility of all manner of bad weather (except snow)…including hail and tornadoes.
Hubby has to go to the big city tomorrow. Hope he’s home before the stuff hits the fan.

We're in a cooling trend . Only got to 67º today and then clouds moved in late afternoon/early evening. Predictions make it look like it will be in the 50s to 60s through the weekend with lows in the mid to high 30s. The good news is that it doesn't look like we will dip below freezing so it really is feeling like we are leaving winter behind. But you never know.... it's still April and we've had snow as late as early to mid May.

Got down to 34° on my back thermometer last night; no frost, probably because it was still slightly breezy, and no dew in this area, so conditions weren't right (or should I say wrong) for the frost, but it was still the coldest it's been for quite a while, and hopefully, the coldest it will be for even longer! Today and tomorrow will still be a few degrees below average (69° avg), in the low 60s, but after that, it shoots up fast, getting too warm, too fast, at least for me, with 86° and 85° Monday and Tuesday.

We've had really up and down weather. About a week ago we got snow, but it was slushy and by the next day melting off. It's not unusual for our area to keep getting some snow through April. Yesterday it was nice then got dark and windy, got a thunderstorm with some small hail and then it was done in a couple of minutes. But hail is a problem here so anymore when my plants are up and going, I have to put hail netting all around. It doesn't look like a Better Homes and Gardens show garden, but plant protection is more important!

Wow. Busy night in Iowa yesterday and last night for tornadoes. Last night there was one near or on top of binnylou! Hope all is well there. We just had strong thunderstorms later, after 10 pm. 1.6" rain. More to come late this afternoon.
