www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/1567
Does anyone know anything about this? What is it really supposed to do, who came up with the idea?....anything at all? Where to find more info on it?
I'm VERY skeptical and if Bill Gates or their foundation is behind it...they support Monsanto and GMOs!
ETA....we can't even solve this problem here in our own country, why would anyone think we can solve the problem world wide???

That kind of codifies what is already being done coordinating global food supplies.

There are some very peculiar provisions in the text of the bill, although I know that it will be subject to wrangling and hopefully change in committee.
This concerns me, as a "statement of policy objectives:
"(4) create an enabling environment for agricultural growth and investment, including through the promotion of secure and transparent property rights;"
I've worked in commercial finance and real estate development for years but don't know what "transparent property rights" are. This sounds like something potentially far reaching and ominous cloaked in congressional speak.
This is troubling as well, and I suspect means that if implemented as written, and passed, Bridge and food stamps availability will be cut back:
"(3) build resilience to food shocks among vulnerable populations and households while reducing reliance upon emergency food assistance;"
I guess it's time to start writing congressmen and senators again; this looks like a bad piece of legislation, although it certainly wouldn't be unique.
To me this just smacks of pork and targeted private center interests as well as literally a round-up of other countries to bring them into the realm of jurisdiction by the US and its private sector.
As nearly as I can tell, this bill is still subject to committee activity; it was also introduced earlier but not passed. Maybe it will die in committee.
Karen, thanks for sharing this.
