Picking lettuce and kale... Watching my newly planted tomatoes grow... Picking parsley every few days and freezing it...

We went to a beautiful Memorial Day parade and ceremony this morning. Heartwarming to see so many young people involved. We were standing next to a little girl, maybe 6 years old, and she was actually singing along with the Star Spangled Banner. Feeling very thankful to all the Veterans and First Responders today. Raining again, so probably not going to get much done in the garden.

Picked radishes yesterday, 20 of them! And a Little Gem head, a few spears of asparagus. DH asked where I got that stuff. I said, uhmmm, the garden.....He doesn't pay any attention to what's growing unless it's tomatoes!

Headed outside shortly to pick a bunch of lettuce before the storms hit here soon... And Mumsey...I planted Little Gem too and I like it very much... It has tender yet meaty, nice supple leaves...I really like it...I'll be growing it again...

Darn it never works for me. Please right click the icon and choose "Open image in new tab" What I did today: Walked out in the rain long enough to take a pic of this nice flower that was blooming in the rain.

I gave serious thought to comments made elsewhere about doing too much on my big housing projects, and decided to take a few days off to think the whole situation over. Made a decision to contract out lawn and some yard care for my own property and plan for a Fall garden instead of a Summer garden, unless I become Wonder Woman and get everything done as I thought I could.
It's a wonderful relief to know that I don't have to face all the chores and challenges I set for myself when I was naïve enough to think I could handle much more than I'm really capable of.

Good for you, SpringRain🕊️. Sometimes it's difficult to accept limitations that life is handing to us.

It's a wonderful relief to know that I don't have to face all the chores and challenges In that vein, we spent 4 hours yesterday pulling out 3 Russian Sage plants at the house in town (already pulled out 3 here at home, last year; and I did leave some) The reason I decided to pull them is that they do so well here, they reseed and send out runners EVERYWHERE: into adjacent thyme lawn, other beds, pathways, etc. I am constantly weeding and pulling out the runners . It's simply too much work to tend them at this stage in my life. I am finding the ways to simplify. Will be planting either agastache or blue mist spirea in their place. Also very drought tolerant and either ones are very low maintenance.

We went to town today for errands. Wanted to mow, but it never dried out enough. Went through the garden and hoed out thousands (no kidding) of cleome seedlings. They are growing in wood chips behind the garden and in straw mulch in the garden! My plan this year is to allow only 2 to grow to maturity. Last year I had about a dozen and I'm thinking now, "what was I thinking?" They are beautiful though.
Transplanted 2 volunteer Paris Island romaine that showed up in the bean row. Transplanted more of them from the new crop growing now. Poor peppers are struggling. I think it's a combo of cold day/hot day/too much rain. In their little milk jugs they were getting fried/sun scaled from the hot sun. Next day they were too cold. So I found some replacements for some of them today at the farm and fleet. Hated to buy any, but it's either that or a bad crop. I left a few of the originals to see if they perk up.
Planted cukes yesterday in 2 spots. I just know I'm gonna say, "what was I thinking"...!

Sometimes it's difficult to accept limitations that life is handing to us. Yes, and I think we face that as we realize the challenges of growing older, challenges that happen in "real time." I've been having trouble just opening the garage door, and the second time I lost control of it and had to quickly put out my arms to stop it from slamming down, I realized that I could have broken both arms. So it's time to get that barn door conversion I've always wanted. Two broken arms or being trapped in a dark garage does not appeal to me. It's simply too much work to tend them at this stage in my life. I'm finally admitting that as well. I've resisted for years but I'm becoming more comfortable being realistic. To put all this in perspective, when I was younger and the garden was in full cultivation, it was close to 3000 square feet, including pathways. And it was wonderful and exciting.

SpringRain🕊️ , just dig two holes anywhere in a sunny location, and put 2 tomato plants there. (I have done this before). No need to set up a garden at all. Those tomatoes will grow and give you all the fruits you need, and You will be pleasantly surprised.
