Up potted the rest of the chiles and all the tomatoes and basil. They are now all sunbathing during the day and wheeled in at night. Two more zones for the drip irrigation are set up (one more to go). Washed and sun dried all the smaller pots and starter cells. And dug up chunks of buffalo grass from behind the greenhouse to plug in where neighbor's chickens had scratched out bare spots. At the end of the day I got a text from same neighbor to ask if I could go over and advise her on planting some packets of flower seeds and which weeds to pull (vs wild flowers) She is a very inexperienced gardener but at least is trying.

So glad the sale is over! Lots of work but successful. Neighbor had a birthday party for her mom who turned 98. Lots of people and some came to the sale and walked away with plants. Garage is cleaned up and put back together.
Today we are going to Dad's. When I get home it's serious gardening time! Didn't get any done over the last 3 days. Looks like mowing again Monday.

After getting sweetheart off to work early yesterday morning I started filling family and friends plant requests. Little sister and 3 close friends all received garbage bag lined boxes filled with different varieties of tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, ground cherries and a couple of them even are going to try celery. Today I’ll separate the plants that we want and fill a box for another buddy, that I’ll deliver tomorrow. Any plants that are left over I’ll have sweetheart put on a local fb site for free.
Last evening was a scheduled cousins get together for supper in Springfield. When little sister and her husband picked me up the skies were blue but quickly clouded up and it was clear that storms were approaching. Supper and conversation were great but inside I was terrified of what was going on at home as I had left a few windows open against upper management’s directive of closing them when I left. Luckily everything was dry inside when I got home!

We had a bit of rain Friday night and my peppers were all in solid 1020 trays so first order of business was to transfer them into trays with drainage. Also separated them according to whether or not they were hot or sweet. Then it was on to tomatoes. So far six flats with 18 plants each and probably the same amount to go today. Already had two flats of Romas potted up so looks as if I'll be overrun with tomatoes for a few weeks. Mom will get her pick for mother's day, then I'll determine what I'm going to keep and pass some on to my garden mom friends (there's four of us now). What's left will be for sale. I'd initially planned on going the weekend after Mother's Day but I'm committed to quilt show on Saturday and not sure I'll be up to it Sunday. So may need to hold off another week. Decided to let kiddo have a grandparent day when I do it as there's too many to send along with hubby.
Carried at least twenty plants and bushes to the kennel holding area and was pleased to see that the wisteria I'd bought on clearance had a green shoot after getting nipped by one of the freezes. Water garden plants are scheduled to be delivered tomorrow and have the small wading pool ready in case they're ready to go into water before I get the pond set up. Shocked to see that the irises behind the house were all in full bloom but even more shocked to see that all but one of the clumps were the same. Marking the different clump so I'll know which one it is when it's time to divide them.

Busy day today. Sis and I went out for breakfast, then to Dad's. Delivered 3 trays of plants. Checked dad's boil, not much change. He's calling dr. in the am. I see another trip taking him to see dr. again. Sis went home, bless her heart for helping me for 3 days. . Came home, headed to the garden. Dug holes for tomatoes, put a big dose of compost and Mumsey's Mix in each hole. In all my wisdom I ended up with 18 plants, usually do 16, but a couple new ones I wanted to try. Black Beauty and Abe Lincoln. Had enough mulch for a layer of old straw with shredded leaves on top to put around them. Covered with milk jugs and cages. Planted beans and some kohlrabi seed. Found a sprouting potato, moved it. I'll have one potato hill.....just a taste!! Dug out the fennel that was re-growing from last year, those were beasts!! Don't need any this year. The guy I know came and took all the remaining plants, he had to make 2 trips. He also bought all remaining asparagus, plus while he was gone I found another one and just gave it to him. Visited with him at length about his mom who has cancer and is now terminal. He was happy to know more about Hospice, which I shared with him. He said he wasn't sure how it works, etc. Encouraged him to call them sooner rather than later. Then back to the garden, decided I need another bale of straw so called farmer friend. He said sure, come get it. I always try to take them something for it, today it was asparagus. They said they were talking this morning about wanting some. Funny how things work out. I not only came home with my straw bale, but a dozen eggs too. I don't think we ever trade even!! But they don't care and neither do I. I get sweet corn from them late summer. They did not want any garden plants this year, she works and doesn't have time to take care of it, plus she works around the farm. So they will be getting fresh veggies all summer. Wrestled the straw out of the car. Will get it to the garden tomorrow. Planting the rest of everything, I hope. I'm totally pooped after 4 days of non-stop work! But it's the work I love and wouldn't trade it for a real job!

Not much gardening done today. I did get to weed wack around the lilac bushes. Don't dare let hubby do that. There are too many other plants in that area. Granddaughters came over for a while and when I brought them back to daddy, I wound up staying over there and playing with them. 8 year old just started volleyball, so we played volleyball. My wrists are going to be screaming tonight. Came home, made potato salad, threw burgers on the grill and now I am done for the day, except for watering the tomatoes and peppers.

Wrestled the straw out of the car. Will get it to the garden tomorrow. Just put together the garden cart I got on sale on Amazon: www.amazon.com/dp/B0BRBVRB93?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1Picked up chicken feed from feed store in Hicksville. It's a bit of a drive, but better than paying $30 for delivery. Cart was great. Carried 7 bags of feed in two trips, although I had help lifting them into the metal garbage/storage cans. Could have myself and been wiped out for the day, but when help is offered, I have learned to say yes, thank you. Rectangular bale of hay should fit fine in there, but not those giant round rolls of hay.

I had found 2 Siberian elms that had gotten away from me, interspersed with one of the wild cherry trees. They were too big to pull or dig out (2-3 ft tall, with very deep roots), but we did our best and were able to cut them back several inches below ground level. At the least, it will take a year or two to sprout above the ground. And if luck is with us we might have killed them off. (wishful thinking but not entirely impossible). Then sawed back a third elm, below the surface, that has been cut multiple times before.
Then while in that area, I cut back the bindweed, just below the ground surface, in a single parking spot. I have had mild success in bringing bindweed under control by snipping it below the surface. It takes several years, but it does seem to slow the bindweed down, stunt it, and eventually kill it off.
Neighborhood Sunday gathering was at 5pm- 10 of us this evening. We can have anywhere from 4-12 on any given Sunday.

Woohoo! Tomatoes are potted up and outside to acclimate. Today the geraniums will go out. Meant to plant a few cut-short beans opposite the peas on the cattle panel arch but didn't get it done yesterday, so that's a priority for today. Also hope to get more potatoes planted as I can do that even though the ground is wet since I'm planting on cardboard and mulching. May get around to starting more seeds today too.

Just put together the garden cart I got on sale on Amazon: You'll have to give us an update on it after you've used it for a few months. I've been looking into getting something like this.

Not much going on today - at least not outdoors - thanks to another grey soggy day following Saturday-evening-through-most-of-Sunday's rainfest. But when Mr. Breezy found that he needed a new light switch to repair our wonky kitchen overhead light, I accompanied him to Lowe's where we also picked up some potting mix, raised-bed garden soil, & composted cow manure for my deck garden & strawberry bed. So not a completely lost day.

We had errands in town, so picked up a few groceries…mainly sale items. I wasn’t in the market for a watermelon, but saw a cart of melons…not Sugar Babies, but a bit larger than Sugar Babies. $9.99 each. Perhaps I do need to plant watermelon.
We shop carefully, watch the sales, buy extra when the price is better. Even doing that, there seemed to be a lot of sticker shock.
