Finished up the pea trellis yesterday and got the peas in. Dug up a lot of grass that has been invading the flowerbeds. Hubby turned the water on so for the garden. Had to look around for my hoses, eventually found them and got onions and peas watered in. Supposed to rain today, so don't have to worry about that today. Today will be inside stuff.

Yesterday was a beautiful day. Had a meeting in Brooklyn, so no pea planting. Today it is raining. Thinking about planting in the rain.

The Kale was looking ratty, but no time to feed it to the chickens. Then last week was walking by it and saw it was actually this: Oops. ID tags switched. Purple of Sicily or Graffiti Cauliflower. Largest I've ever grown. 29 " circumference, about 9.5" at the widest.

The main thing I did in the garden today was setting up the drip irrigation lines in my garlic bed, and the mint bed. I tested them, to make sure there were no unwanted leaks, then shut them off, as I definitely won't be needing them soon! I set my leaf cutter bees house up again - too early to order any, but I'll watch to see if any show up on their own. I finished outside just in time, as it started raining hard around 3:30 pm.
One thing I did I forgot about - I put my rain gauge back up. I put new batteries in it, and figure I'll probably get some readings on it tonight! No more lows even close to freezing forecast, so I put that in, and started with the drip irrigation system, too.

It's time to water everything. We haven't gotten to setting up/testing our drip irrigation lines due to our dance with the flu but I was feeling good enough today to hand water everything in the yard except the fruit trees. We will be getting water from the Acequia Madre next Wednesday so they and the landscape trees will get good soak then. Had to take a couple of breaks to get it all done , but I succeeded. My plan is to go to the house in town tomorrow and water everything there. We should then be good for at least a week and we should be able to get the drip systems up and running by then.

I did get quite a bit done this week but so much more to do. Dug catnip out of bed in old garden and what I originally thought was 10-12 big clumps ended up being around 25-30 smaller ones. Did have a couple of big clumps and transplanted one to the new garden where the Jerusalem artichokes were. Evidently mice are using the mole tunnels and devoured it all as I only found one thumb-sized tuber. Hope they suffered really bad gas! Skipped the cells this time and potting peppers into 3 and 5 oz. cups. Ran out and had to make a pit stop at Walmart yesterday when hubby was selling a load of recyclables. Bought 200 of each size and am preparing to burn drainage holes in them momentarily. All but four varieties of tomatoes have sprouted and new geranium seedlings are getting their first leaves!
Hubby's cousin called us to come pick up another load of her late son's stuff and we initially took a new rollaway bed because our niece is moving in with her boyfriend and great-niece didn't have a bed. Well they decided they didn't want it and it's stored at mother-in-law's right now. I told hubby I think we'll hold onto it for a while as kiddo will need a new mattress and box springs within the next year or two and I seem to have misplaced the daybed hardware.

I did get to the house in town and watered everything but the buffalo grass (no need at this point- it's still dormant). Had to take a couple of breaks, so it took longer than expected, but got it done. While waiting as the hose ran for certain things (like a lilac bush, a dwarf tree, etc) I pulled out a bunch of Siberian Elm sprouts from last year, maybe even 2 years ago as some of those sprouts were 8-10 inches long, with roots going almost as deep. But with water they come out easily. Came home and collapsed.

Potted up more cabbage yesterday morning. And some straggler tomatoes. A few more to go. Then did laundry and a quick house cleanup, not deep cleaning by any means. The Princess had a bath. This time when I said "peanut butter" and she was in the bathroom before I was. It was a major bath, 2 rinses with brushing in between. Charged up weed wacker batteries and did front trimming including edging of sidewalk and driveway. Then mowed the front. Layered some of the fresh grass with dried chopped leaves in the compost bin. Gave all perennials in pots a good watering.
This morning a few left over Dutch Flat cabbage seedlings will go in the ground with milk jug covers, possibly the Celeriac too. Then to get the power washer out for the dreaded deck cleaning.

It looks nice out today, but was much cooler, and incredibly windy, so I only went out briefly for a couple things, so I went down to do some things in the hydroponics (which I've been ignoring lately, with all the other things). The Russian red kale I had to pull out, as it was growing into the lights, but I got a bunch more greens from that one plant. The wasabina mustard greens plant had a bunch more, too, but that one sort of spreads out, rather than going straight up, branching out more every time. I also pulled the one leaf lettuce that still hadn't bolted in over 5 months, and I got a huge amount of leaves from it for salads. I'll have some outside soon, so I don't need this anymore. And I trimmed a bunch from the basils - didn't use any of this (and there's still a lot more), but this will trigger the plants into some new growth, which I need for starting cuttings - the easier and faster way to start plants for outside, than starting with seeds. Same with the epazote. I also re-filled the tubs, which were low, due to those large greens, and ignoring them, as I noted. I also added a little nutrients - a little low, but surprisingly not much, after all those greens and herbs! A large bunch of greens from the Russian red kale and wasabina mustard greens, from the hydro. by pepperhead212, on Flickr Had to finally pull out the Russian red kale in the hydro, as it was growing up in the lights. by pepperhead212, on Flickr

Not much. Carried the flats of starts to the greenhouse for their day of full sun hot. Potted up more basil and tomatoes. Then collapsed again. It's taking a while to fully recover. It's been so long since I've had a bad cold or flu (not sure which one I've had) I had forgotten what it is like to mend.
We drove to town so Quinn could mix up a batch of stop coughing herbs for us both. While there I was starting on cutting back the first lavender plant when a neighbor walked up asking if we had a BP cuff. She was doubting if hers was accurate and her BP had been climbing all day and had gotten quite high. Quinn had brought his home so we could do a comparison with our home unit, but our tenants (who rent out the main part of the house) have one (he is a chiropractor) and another neighbor is a retired ER MD. It was so heartwarming to see neighbors and 3 different doctor modalities work together caring for her.

Yesterday was busy. Got the power washer out and hooked up. At 0930 decided to start cleaning the blocks on raised bed on North side of garage. Couldn't believe how nasty they had gotten. Then did the sidewalk next to it and the concrete patio area off the deck. Yikes! Clean! DS overslept, like til noon, so was late getting here. I started washing the back deck, way bigger than the front one. By the time DS got here I was nearly done with it. He finished then moved on to the front. Glad to have that done, now to wait for dry weather with favorable nighttime temps to do the staining. Today it's window washing, the ones in the kitchen that I have to get up on counter to do. And outside of the 2 picture windows. Glad to have DS helping with those. The rest I can do without leaving the floor! . He gets nervous when I tell him all the climbing I do. We will be cleaning up top of garage too, lots of ladder work. I planted 5 cabbage seedlings in the garden, don't even have true leaves yet but they will be fine. Done it many times. Also planted 6 Celeriac. The potted up tomatoes indoors are starting to grow fast. Put a small fan down there on the lemon grass, it always gets beaten by wind when it's first planted. Breakfast is ready to cook, veggie omelets and oven hash browns and fruit smoothies.

Except for a flat of geranium seedlings, I'm caught up in the house. Peppers are currently occupying a whopping six flats which will eventually expand. Tomato seeds have sprouted but it will be at least a week before I attempt them as this week is going to be hectic. Still much planting to do outside and need to get that nursery bed in the greenhouse ready. Kind of bummed that I haven't gotten around to planting more flowers yet but figure I can sow perennial seeds in the nursery bed and hope for the best.

Yesterday was day 5 of a marathon for me. Working like a crazy woman. Need a day of rest. Partially today anyway. Tomorrow for sure, rain coming. DS and I got lots done yesterday. He pulled every box down from top of garage, most of them empty, to use for plant sale. Some extra fencing, I may or may not use. Got out the chainsaw, going to sell it, no need for it. Also got down starter size stuff and organized it. Empty totes no longer being used. Sold on Facebook. Power washed kitchen rugs and the driveway. Washed outside picture windows and kitchen windows. Used Swiffer mop for those big windows, worked great, used no-lint paper towels, just poked them in the little grabber holes on top of the mop head.
Checked basement dwellers this morning, had to raise all the lights. They are growing fast now. Dug a few more Larkspur and potted them yesterday. Dug/pulled out about 100 blue flax. They are everywhere! Had to hoe out tons of smaller ones. Those all went to compost. Today I'm planning to find a space for the 4 Lupine I started from seed, they are about 6" tall. Next week hoping to move some of the kids to the driveway. And hopefully in 2 weeks we will be able to stain the decks. After mid-May there isn't much left to do but sit back and watch things grow!

We’ve had visitors since Tuesday, and no matter how good of a time we’ve had, I’ve fallen behind on things around here. Up potting and general yard care are on the list of things to do today. On a positive note we did send a few pepper and eggplants along with Mumsey’s mix and different flower starts to Iowa with one of our guests. Yesterday was the visitation for sweetheart’s kid’s grandmother that we attended. It was prearranged that we would bring two vehicles home filled with 7 kids to make it easier on both the parents and kids. That made for a busy and loud afternoon. It was a relief when the kids came to pick them up. Time to get moving……

Not much garden wise. Still unpacking and organizing. Goal at the moment is to empty a minimum of two boxes a day. Recycling the used moving boxes and packing materials via Facebook marketplace. Took six or seven cartons of stuff I just no longer need or want to the local thrift store.
Hit a couple local estate sales over the weekend. Found a table and chairs with an almost matching sideboard for a good price. Also scored some free firewood. Have only been to the new to me CG once since moving here. Was warned to be prepared for unsolicited garden advice. Could have some fun with that!
